Peter Mayle’s classic 1989 travelogue, A Year in Provence, a recommended read, sums up the rustic good life and everything enviable about the French lifestyle that is Provence: fantastic food, hilltop villages, legendary wines, bustling markets and a balmy climate.

Thursday, April 11th

Arrive Marseille

  • Transfer to hotel in Aix En Provence
  • Walking tour of Aix or time at leisure, depending on flight arrival times
  • Welcome Dinner
  • Overnight at Grand Hôtel ROI René Aix-en-Provence
  • Meals—D


Friday, April 12th University Clinical Visit, Aix-en-Provence and President’s Dinner

  • Breakfast at the hotel followed by a Clinical Symposium (2 hrs).
  • Lunch and afternoon at leisure to explore and discover Aix on your own.
  • Optional Tour—Drive through the foothills of St-Victoire Mountain, which greatly inspired French painter Paul Cézanne, and visit a traditional winery in the Côtes de Provence St-Victoire winemaking region.
  • President’s Dinner
  • Overnight at Grand Hôtel ROI René Aix-en-Provence
  • Meals—B, D


Saturday, April 13th Hill

Towns of the Luberon

  • Breakfast at the hotel followed by a Clinical Symposium (2 hrs).
  • The rest of the day we spend exploring the hill towns and villages that make up the Luberon.
  • Dinner at leisure

Avignon and transfer to Lyon

  • Breakfast at the hotel and check-out.
  • This morning we will discover the complex history of Avignon.
  • Lunch and free time at leisure before departing for Lyon.


LYON

France’s third largest city, is in no way third-best. In fact, many say Lyon gives travelers a
taste of authentic French culture, not to mention some of the most masterful cooking in the
world, which is why the city is often hailed as the gastronomic capital of France. Founded in
43 B.C. on the convergence of the gleaming Rhône and Saône rivers, Lyon’s long history is
still on view today, from its Ancient Theatre of Fourvière to its Renaissance-era district Vieux
Lyon.
